| Bill Text: | AMENDING THE PURPOSE AND COMPOSITION OF THE ETHNIC AWARENESS COMMITTEE In the Year Two Thousand and Three The City of Nashua ordains that Chapter 2 “Administration”, Article III “Administrative Code”, Division 2 “Office of the Mayor”, Section 2-94 “Ethnic awareness committee”, of the Nashua Revised Ordinances, as amended, is hereby further amended by deleting the struckthrough language and adding the new underlined language as follows: “Sec. 2-94. Ethnic awareness committee. (a) An ethnic awareness committee is hereby established. The purpose of the committee is to promote appreciation of the ethnic diversity and cultural contributions of various segments of the Nashua community. The committee shall encourage understanding and appreciation of ethnic diversity in the City of Nashua, be a sounding board for ethnic community problems, be a communication link among the various ethnic groups and government entities and assist in developing and continuing community program ideas and publicationsfacilitate communication between the ethnic community and city government. (b) The committee shall consist of the following members, who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the board of aldermaen: (1) A representative of the mayor; (2) A member of the board of aldermen or an alternate member of the board of aldermaen; (3) A representative of the Nashua police department; (4) A representative of the Nashua public library; (5) A representative of the Inter-faith Council; or faith based community; (6) A representative of the Nashua school department; (7) A representative of the city clerk’s office; (78) A representative of the City of Nashua health and community services division; (89) AThree representatives of the business community private sector with at least two representing ethnic business constituencies within the community; and (910) A minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of fifteen (15) community memberscitizens representing as broad a the spectrum of racial, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity as exists in the Nashua community. Additionally, there shall also be an attempt to include other elements of the community that may be coincidental within its ethnic composition yet include but not be limited to areas such as health care, arts and culture, and/or recreation. (c) Members of the committee will serve for three-year terms with the exception of the mayor's representative, who will serve at the pleasure of the mayor, and the member of the board of aldermen, who will serve concomitantly with his/her term of office. The initial appointments of the other committee members will be as follows: four (4) members for one (1) year; four members for two (2) years; and five members for three (3) years. (d) The committee shall elect a chairperson from among its members, chosen from one of the citizen representatives. The committee shall establish it bylaws and establish regular times for meetings and the orderly conduct of business. (e) The members of the committee shall serve without compensation.” |
