Nashua Recycling Center


 

The Nashua Recycling Center is located at the Four Hills Landfill and is available for use by residents and businesses of Nashua.     

The accepted household recyclables are sorted into two groups - paper and containers.  Please Note, NO SMOKING ALLOWED.  All papers can be mixed in the same trays.  All containers should be commingled in the same trays.  Check the signs above the recycling drop-off areas and trays to determine where to put paper and containers.

  • Mon - Fri: 8 am to 4 pm; Saturdays: 8 am to 1 pm
  • Residential Permit required
  • Recycling only – no charge
  • Regular permit (all acceptable trash, brush and use of the Swap Shop) - $5 / yr / vehicle
  • Fee waived for residents 65 years and older
 
     
Mixed Paper:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Plain paper
  • Junk mail Shred confidential papers; place shredded material in a paper bag to prevent blowing litter
  • Cardboard - Flatten all cardboard boxes, large boxes should be cut to 3 ft x 3 ft
    • corrugated
    • chipboard (cereal boxes without the liner, shoe boxes, etc.)

Commingled Containers:

  • Glass bottles and jars (all colors) - NO: ceramics, drinking glasses, mirrors, plate glass
  • Metal cans
    • aluminum beverage cans
    • tin cans (e.g., soup cans)
  • Plastic bottles and jars
    • #1 – soda, juice, peanut butter, some cleaning products, etc. NO: yogurt cups, deli containers, bottles/jars with other numbers inside the recycling triangle on the bottom
    • #2 – milk, water jugs, laundry products, personal care products, etc.

Clean / rinse all containers; labels may remain

Other Accepted Materials

  • Automotive batteries – lead acid batteries from cars and trucks and motorcycles should be placed carefully on the pallet in the battery shed
  • Waste oil – oil should be in one-gallon containers, to avoid spillage; no more than 5 one-gallon containers may be recycled at one time.  Waste oil should be carefully poured into the tank; containers should be completely drained and then discarded in the trash.  No other automotive waste; take gasoline and antifreeze to the Household Hazardous Waste collections

Household Hazardous Waste Events
5 drop-off collections are scheduled for 2008 at the Nashua Public Works Garage on Riverside Street (near the Police Department).  Please check out the website of the Nashua Regional Planning Commission - www.nashuarpc.org - for more information.

Swap Shop
A 2008 residential landfill permit is required to drop off or take small useable household goods.  See the Four Hills Landfill page for directions on use of the Swap Shop.

Textile Recycling
The Salvation Army provides a container for recycled clothing and other textiles.  Items must be in good condition and must be put inside the container; nothing should be left on the ground outside the container.
