 Parent/Child & Family Mediation

What is Mediation?
Mediation is a process which brings families together to help resolve conflicts and find solutions that are acceptable to all. It gives families a chance to talk to each other and to be heard. Mediation helps families learn conflict resolution and communication skills to resolve current and future disagreements.

Who Can Benefit?
Any family having difficulty with communication or experiencing conflict may receive mediation services free of charge. Possible issues for mediation are family arguments, runaways, truancy, curfew, parental authority, communication, schoolwork, predelinquent activity, family responsibilities, independence, drug and alcohol use and adjustments to separation, divorce or remarriage.

How Do Mediation Sessions Work?
Mediators listen carefully and ask questions to understand what has happened. They help families develop solutions and reach agreements. Mediators do not take sides or place blame. Mediation is confidential and mediators take an oath of confidentiality to ensure your privacy.

How Do Families Participate in Mediation?
Families may contact the Nashua Mediation Program directly if they would like to know more about mediation or would like to participate in mediation. Schools, police, courts, DCYF, clergy, private practitioners, physicians or human service agencies also make referrals. You can contact us by calling 603/589-4550.
