Career Opportunities
Nashua Fire Rescue will be developing a Recruit Fire Fighter eligibility list in 2011 for possible hiring in 2012. All candidates must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for consideration:
Nashua Fire Rescue Hiring Policy
Section 15.01 Purpose
(a)   The Board of Fire Commission wishes to afford all qualified individuals an equal opportunity to enter the Nashua Fire Rescue.
Section 15.02 Scope
(a)  
Fire Fighter entrance requirements mandated by State of NH Administrative Rules, Section 701.01:
  • The candidate shall be at least 18 years of age
  • The candidate shall have a high school diploma or GED
  • The candidate shall not have been convicted of a felony
  • There shall be a through background investigation, to include a criminal and motor vehicle record check
  • After written authorization is received from a physician, the candidate shall pass the physical ability test described in Fire 702.
  • The candidate shall pass a pre-placement medical evaluation as outlined in NFPA 1582. Category “A” conditions as outlined by NFPA 1582 shall be causes for rejection. Waivers for category “B” conditions shall be granted after consultation with the local fire department physician.
  • The candidate shall pass a written entrance examination given by the jurisdictional agency to determine the candidate’s ability to successfully complete the fire fighter training program. Nashua Fire Rescue requires successful completion of the NHFST 2011 written examination to be considered in the 2012 hiring process.
  • The candidate shall be orally interviewed by the jurisdictional agency to determine the candidate’s ability to communicate and how the person represents him or herself to others
 (b) Nashua Fire Rescue Requirements:
  • Candidates must hold a minimum of NH Firefighter II certification, as determined by the State of NH. Candidates holding out of state certification must provide a letter from New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training & Emergency Medical Services granting reciprocity prior to the close of the NFR application process. Determination of certification rests solely with Nashua Fire Rescue.
  • Candidates must show proof of successful completion (minimum grade of 70%) of the 2011 NHFST Written Entrance Exam
  • Candidates must hold a minimum of National Registry EMT – B certification. Candidates holding out of state certification must obtain National Registry certification prior to the close of the NFR application process. Candidates are required to maintain a current certification throughout the hiring process
  • Current CPR certification. Candidates are required to maintain a current certification throughout the hiring process.
  • Current CPAT certification. Candidates are required to maintain a current CPAT certification throughout the hiring process.  
  • Willing to reside within fifteen (15) miles of the geographic center of the City of Nashua (Nashua Police Station) within six (6) months of hire for the purpose of callback.
  • Candidates must obtain a NH CDL-B (heavy commercial) driver license as a condition of employment
  • No more than three (3) points in three (3) years on your driver license record for moving violations.
  • No DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) convictions within seven (7) years on your drivers license record.
  • No convictions involving the transportation of alcohol or drugs within seven (7) years on your drivers license record.
  • Candidates must successfully complete all required oral exams and back ground checks
Candidates must also successfully complete a supplemental physical agility test consisting of the following:
·         105’ aerial ladder climb in 4:00 or less with SCBA (off air) and fire coat
·         1.5 mile run in 12:00 minutes or less
·         Completion of an obstacle course while using a self contained breathing apparatus with a blacked out face piece
New Hampshire Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services will be accepting examination applications from January 24, 2011 through March 4, 2011. Applications will be available on the Division website at:

Certification

If you live outside New Hampshire, or hold out of state certifications, you need to ensure that your current certifications comply with the requirements of State of NH Certified Firefighter Level II, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.  Please contact the NH Fire Academy to complete the reciprocity process for FF II certification. EMT-B reciprocity must be obtained through the National Registry of EMT’s Reciprocity must be obtained prior to the close of the Nashua Fire Rescue application process. Determination of certification rests solely with Nashua Fire Rescue. Nashua Fire Rescue does not provide the required certification training. Interested candidate must contact NHFST & EMS for all certification program information.
