Board of Fire Commissioners

The Nashua Fire Rescue has an elected Board of Fire Commissioners with total of 5 members elected during the city's general election.  The Board of Fire Commissioners are tasked with the hiring and promotional processes of the department.  The Board of Fire Commissioners works with the Fire Rescue Administration in planning and prioritzing the departments direction.
 

Paul Garant - Chairman of Board
Elected January 2008, serving since 2003
Four Year Term ending 2012

Medical Company Executive

A resident of Nashua since 1985 Commissioner Garant has been employed in the medical device industry for 30 years and is currently the Vice President of Quality Assurance and Manufacturing of NMT Medical, Inc. of Boston, MA, a manufacturer of cardiac implants. In addition, Commissioner Garant has served as a member of several call fire departments in Massachusetts and as an EMT and member of the Board of Directors of the Boston Ambulance Squad. Commissioner Garant is married and has a son and daughter.

 

Bruce Laughton - Vice Chairman of Board
Elected January 2006
Four Year Term ending 2010

 
A resident of Nashua since 1978 when he began his career with the Nashua Fire Rescue he retired as a Captain with 26 years of service.  Commissioner Laughton works as a Pharmacy Technician at the Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua.   Married for over 10 years and a father to 3 children.

Kevin Gage - Secretary of the Board
Elected January 2008, first term
Four Year Term ending 2012
Previously served as Ward 3 Alderman 2000 to 2006.

Commissioner Gage has a degree in Criminal Justice from Dean College.
 
Commissioner Gage spent fifteen years in law enforcement before making a transition to the private security management field. He is currently a Security Manager for Winchester (MA) Hospital, a 224 bed facility just outside of Boston. Commissioner Gage is a graduate of police academies in both MA and NH. He is certified in First Receiver Awareness and Operations through OSHA. He is certified in Basic Disaster Life Support training provided by the City of Nashua, Medical College of GA and the American Medical Association. He is a certified instructor in several programs related to the healthcare security field.
 

Commissioner Gage is a Nashua native. He and his wife Robin have two sons and live in the north end of the city

David Lavoie
Re-elected 2006, formlery served beginning in 1994 to 2003.
Four year term ending 2010
Previously served as Nashua Police Commissioner 2003 to 2005,

A lifelong Nashua native and graduate of the Nashua Public Schools and attended UNH in Durham. Married with a son and daughter, along with 2 dogs. Commissioner Lavoie is an avid traveler.   His occupations include Real Estate investing, Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Contracting. He enjoy the outdoors hunting, hiking, competitive shooting and many beaches around the world.  

Commissioner Lavoie believes it is everyone’s responsibility to give something back to your community.

 

Ralph Kelloway Jr.
Elected January 2008, first term
Four Year Term ending 2012

Commissioner Kelloway is a lifelong native of Nashua and graduated from Nashua High class of 1972.  Son of Retired Deputy Chief and former Fire Commissioner Ralph Kelloway Sr.

Commissioner Kelloway Jr. served with the Nashua Fire Rescue for over 28 1/2 years and retired at the rank of Lieutenant.  During his service Kelloway served on the Haz Mat team and Dive Team.  Kelloway also served as a President of the Nashua Firefighters Relief Association, Union Steward of Local 789 and a member of the Public Relations Committee. 

Kelloway attended the New Hampshire Technical College, New Hampshire Fire Academy and International Fire Instructors program in Ashland MA.  Employed as a Pharmacy Technician at the Southern NH Medical Center and operates a Fire Department merchandise company.  Married for over 17 years and father to one son.  Kelloway is also an active member of Box 52 Association, Fire & Iron Firefighters motorcycle club and an avid fireground photographer and videographer.
