Elections and Voter Registration


Results for the Unofficial Election Results for the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009.  Report includes ward tallies for citywide candidates and ballots cast (voter turnout).  In this municipal general election, voters cast ballots for the Board of Aldermen, Board of Education, Board of Public Works, Fire Commission, and Ward Election Officials (Moderator, Ward Clerk, and Selectmen). 

Recounts.  City Charter section 26 provides that "Any candidate who is dissatisfied with the return of the vote at any municipal election may have a recount of the vote cast at such election for the office for which he was a candidate...by notifying the city clerk and all candidates for the same office who were returned as having received a larger number of votes than himself that he request such recount or proposes to make such contest by notice in writing left at the office of the city clerk and delivered in hand to or left at the usual place of abode of each of such other candidates at least forty-eight hours before...the meetings of the board of aldermen...at which the returns are to be canvassed.  The...board of aldermen, at said meeting, or at an adjourned meeting or meetings specially held for that purpose within one week thereafter, shall thereupon recount the ballots in the presence of the interested parties, or their representatives..."

Official ballots are 8 1/2" x 14".

City ordinances require the filing of campaign receipt and expenditure reports twenty (20) days prior to the date of the election and again by December 1st following the election.  Campaign finance reporting forms appear below:
