Elected 2003, Re-Elected 2005. Dave received a B.A. degree in U.S. History from the University of Vermont in 1988. Upon graduation from UVM he served as Field Director for Bush for President and was later appointed to the Presidential Inauguration Committee in Washington, D.C. In 1990, Dave was instrumental in drafting Fmr. Governor Richard Snelling to run for a 5th term. In 1992, Dave ran for the legislature in the Republic Primary narrowly losing by four votes. He went on to serve on the South Burlington City Council from 1994-1996. Dave was transferred by his employer, J. Riggings, to Connecticut in 1996, where he stayed until relocating to Nashua in 2000. During the next few years he volunteered for charitable causes such as the United Way, American Cancer Society and Nashua Soup Kitchen raising money and donations. In 2004, Dave was named NH Retail Manager of the Year by the New Hampshire Retail Merchants Association. That same year, he was a participant in a roundtable discussion of the Greater Nashua Area Economy sponsored by the SBDC Office of Economic Initiatives and the UNH Whittemore School of Business. Dave further participated in the survey on Economic Development Strategic Plan sponsored by Mt. Auburn Associates. In 2005, he attended the RMANH Retail Summit and the Nashua Economic Summit sponsored by the Office of Economic Development. In 2006 and 2007, Alderman MacLaughlin was voted Nashua’s “Best Politician” by readers of the Hippo Press and received the Nashua Telegraph's "2006 Reader's Choice" award for local politician. Dave is a member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Commuter Rail, the Nashua Historical Society, Nashua Pride Booster Club, Nashua Chamber of Commerce, and serves as Co-Chairman of the McCain 2008 Nashua City Steering Committee. He is employed at Men’s Wearhouse.
